06/04: Bike Check!

Category: Bikes and Parts | Posted by: Dez | 1 Comment |

It has been a while, since i made a bike check. So here is what my set-up looks like!

Frame: Deep - The Blitz
Fork: Odyssey - Flat Fork 2009
Handlebar: OG - Caramel 3
Stem: Khe - Mininmalism (The one with normal taps!)
Pegs: Ares - Uma (Still customized)
Cranks: Suelo - v3 160 mm
Sprocket: Suelo - 20 t
Pedals: Odyssey
Hub: WTP- New one with female axle (roles like charm)
Rim Front: Shadow Conspiracy
Freecoaster: Ares - Boo 1
Rim Back: Shadow Conspiracy
Seat: McNeil - Customized
Steatpost: McNeil - 330
Brake lever: Primo - One bolt
Brake: Hombre

Some extra thing i want to ad about my bike is, that i really love the Deep frame! The geometry is perfect for my riding! I just changed my rims and really love the look! I had to change my pegs recently, but I immediately put the caps back on. I also swapped my Ares 140mm cranks, for a pair Suelo 160mm, witch is much nicer for pedal hang-five tricks! I also found a way to make to customized seat look more professional! Important for me is that my bike is strong! I really love the odyssey fork because of the long steering-tube and because its incredibly strong! The same goes for the Deep frame, everything is so stiff and nothing looks really breakable, a lot of companies could learn from this, instead of only trying to make there frames lighter. My bike isn't super light right now, but at least I know it can resist a lot!

After having a lot of good comments about my seat, I thought it was usefull to make an propper "How-To" costumize your Macneil S.L. seat (or any brand with this type of seats).

I have my seat 8 months now and it's still in perfect shape, only a little bit sliden because of the backwheel tricks. With this seat you will have a hell lot more space! And, it's soft, not hard like the KHE Watanabe so no more hammeriods. With some modification it has the perfect hold too. Here is how to make one yourself!

Supply list:
- Screwdriver
- Saw
- Scissor
- Staple Pistol
- Dremel/Drill

Step 1:
Leave the seat on the bike, just put the bike upside down. Remove the plastic peace first, and then remove the staples. After you have done that, remove the leather kindly all the way to the back. Then, you take a saw and cut it before the first rail.

Step 2:
For this part you need a "Dremel" or a drill with the right part. I use a sandpaper tool to remove the first rail of the seat. This is for better holding. But you have to be gentel that you don't remove to mutch.

Step 3

This is to give it a nice finnish up! You use the "Dremel" again with the sandpaper tool to make the nose nice and round. After that you flip over the leather and thight it with the "Staple Pistol". Then you cut of the extra leather and your seat is ready to be used!

It's going to cost you around 30 min with the right tools but its totally worth it! I wish you good luck. Oh and know im not responsible for if anything goes wrong ;)

The legendary Martti Kuoppa decided to give away a frame to someone who came up with a new trick. I uploaded my kickflip/presureflip which I pulled last year in Osaka (Japan) and I won the contest! As promised, I got my new frame (KGB Palermo 2008 model) at the BMX Worlds in Köln! On this picture you can see the frame, already put together.

Bike Company's have been coming with new pegs for years now, but never with pegs I want. The "A Bad Thing" pegs came close but painted pegs don't stay black forever. Then the "Ares Uma" pegs came out. Plastic pegs knurled, really nice when holding your pegs but plastic wears out pretty fast. So last week I let a friend of my make aluminium caps for the pegs. And this is the result!

I don't know what the total weight is. The cap is totally solid now so the next pegs will be hollow to save some weight. First let's see how long these will last!

The clamp system works with a little imbus and a small hole in the cap.
