Street or Flat?
Category: Video's | Posted by: Dez | 1 Comment |
I have been working on some flat/street tricks, I learned a whopper this year at first from the pegs and now also from the pedals. A whopper has always been a trick for me which was almost impossible! But after just trying it for fun between links, one day I pulled it. I made a video to test the quality of my Nokia N97 and I also edited it with it. So, no special video, just fooling around!

Every year around "Car Free Sunday" there are a lot of events. Mebike organized a small event in the center of Amsterdam and LostBmx was there to do some clinics and a show.

But that was not it! In Delft they held the 7th editon of "Skatejam Delft" which turned out to be really big this year! It was a complete festival with music and a lot off street sports. I was there for the last time 5 years ago, when there still was a good flatland scene and there were held Flatland contests at this kind of events. But since the Flatland scene in Holland got small, people are more interested in a show at their event. Me and Michael van der Kroft dropped a show in the center of the skatepark and the BMX park riders created a good vibe! The show went well and people were really enthusiastic and a live streaming on a big screen totally made the show!

"Veilig Leren Fietsen" is a project in which they teach kids how to ride a bicycle in traffic properly. To start off the project, they planned an opening and I was the opening act. The kids were really enthusiastic and they loved the show! It was a very nice show to do, especially when the kids enjoy it so much!

The man of "Traffic Safety" arrived in style to open the project.

Last Saterday was a busy day! First I had to travel to the Adidas store in Hilversum to do some promotion to celebrate their one year anniversary.

After that I took the train to Beverwijk, which is close to my hometown, to do a show with the whole crew at the festival "Uit de Kunst" which was the opening of the cultural season! After the show we did a small clinic for the kids. Next Friday I have show for traffic safety at a school in Den Haag.

These last weeks I have been riding with Michael 2 or 3 days a week. Since Michael is working in the catering industry we mostly have sessions from 23:00 till 03:00! Michael has made a lot of progression! He learned the halfpacker to steamroller pifot and that's a really good move! He also inspires me with a lot of new tricks! It's good to see someone progress that much in one year!

Breakfest is organized by bureau Pinkpop. Pinkpop is a big festival every year and it's a great succes with big international artist. At Breakfest there was a lot to see and to do! From breakdance battles to Sven Boekhorst (Inline X Games Champion) Mind the Gap who was really awesome! Jesse de Doelder organized a small flatland jam and I had to be there with Ish to perform on the bigstage! It was a long day but the show was really nice!

The final round of Streetmasters was finally there. I do have to say, this wasn't the best Streetmasters. That was definitely the one in Amsterdam! This time it was a very windy day and the flatland part was literally pushed in a corner. So the atmospheer was not so good! Officially there were 9 riders in the finals, but since Wouter van der Linde wasn't allowed to go by his parents, we ended up with 8 riders. Because of the scores everybody got in the previous rounds, the battle schedule was really unfortunate for some people. Sietse and Erik were head to head in the first round and Sietse got knocked out! This was really sad for him since he became 2nd twice and ended up third once in the previous rounds. Michael was up against Milan and this was a hard decision for the jury but Milan won. The total result was:

1. Dez Maarsen (LostBmx)
2. Erik Hogers (LostBmx)
3. Milan van Roon (LostBmx)
4. Bodean Maarsen (LostBmx)
5. Michael van der Kroft(LostBmx)
6. Sietse van Berkel (Nieuwedijkse Stuntfiets Vereniging)
7. Gino Stuart
8. Jorit van Drumpt

So I won the €500,-! I sure hope more riders will enter next year!

Bodean 4 times 4th.

Photo was made by Bram. My axle got fucked up, James was kind enough to lend me his front wheel!

That was Streetmasters 2009! I heard there is a big article in the national news paper, i'll be posting it later on. It sure was fun, but we can work on a lot of things to make it a better contest. So till then, just practice!
